![]() The face of sports in Detroit has changed once again with the construction of two major league stadiums in downtown Detroit; Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions football team and Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers baseball team.
The Detroit Red Wings (winners of the Stanley Cup in 1997, 1998 and 2002) will continue to display their outstanding hockey skills in downtown Detroit at the Joe Louis Arena. Detroit has been known as the city of champions since the 1930's when the Tigers, Lions and Red Wings all won titles in the same year.
The beautiful Palace of Auburn Hills is the home of the NBA's Detroit Pistons (winners of three NBA titles including the 2004 NBA Championship) and the WNBA's (formerly of) Detroit Shock (2003 & 2006 WNBA Champions).
The City of Detroit recently enjoyed a major success hosting Super Bowl XL at Ford Field and the 2009 NCCA Men’s Division I Basketball Final Four Tournament.
It's no wonder SportingNews rated Detroit the #1sports town in the United States in 1998 & again in 2007!
